EASTERN SIERRIA FISHING REPORT

Upper Owens- Fishing in the Eastern Sierra is starting to heat up as we start full swing into are summer season. Let’s start are report talking about the Crowley Lake tributaries. The Upper Owens River has been fishing well from mid morning to noon with some blue wing olive and some caddis hatching # 16-22 BWOs and # 16-18 elk hair caddis and x-caddis been getting the Trout attention . Nymphing under a indicator or euro nymphing has also been very productive as well and a good possibility of catching a trophy trout nymphing the correct flys. Productive nymph patterns that have been working well for me  are # 16-12 hares ear , # 16-12 Prince nymph ,micro may fly 16-20, El condor #20-16 ,burlap caddis #14-12 and different patterns of Perdigons #20-16 . The flows on the Upper O are at 104 CFS , the water is a little off color from the snow melt off in my opinion it makes the fishing a little more productive, makes you not as visible to the fish and are able to get a better presentation on the fish.

HOT CREEK – This is a great time to be fishing Hot Creek. Run off is one of best times a year to be fishing hot creek with flows currently at 110 CFS fishing can be very good. Nymphing and streamer fishing can be very productive, same types of nymphs i listed above in Upper O report have been working well for me at Hot Creek. During these high flows do no be afraid to throw a big streamer around something like a Dirty Hippy, Baby Gonga or a big articulated streamer, you may tease up a giant Brown trout .

CROWLEY LAKE – Crowley Lake has its ups and downs some days the lake is fishing really good with 20 plus fish avarage days and some days its fishing really slow but that is the game of Crowley Lake still water fly fishing . The fish are deep any were from 25-35 feet . Finding a good amount of hatching midges, good sonar marks and clean water is key. Remember as we get later into summer the water temps will rise we need to be careful with are angling and fish handling as water temps get to 70 and above we should stop are fishing for the day it is not healhy for the fish in those highwater temps when you fight them in. Flys that have been productive on Crowley # 16-14 zebra midge, #16-14 Albino Wino, # 16-14 blood midge and # 16-14 Copper Tiger.

EAST WALKER RIVER- East Walker River has been fishing great despite the crowds. Getting on the water early is very important to find a good section of water to fish before another angler does. The flows are at 219 cfs  which makes it a great time to have a very productive day on the river. There has been some great dry fly action with the Caddis hatch in full swing also some great streamer fishing and nymphing as well. Flys that have been working well, Elk Hairs Caddis # 14-18, X Caddis #14-18, 12-14 Chernobyl Ant, Pats Rubber leg # 12-14, “ROWES” Stoner Fly# 12-14, Hairs Ears # 14-10, Perdigons #20-14, Dead Drift cray fish #6-10 and cant go wrong throwing a big streamer around to tease up a giant East Walker Trophy Brown Trout or trophy Rainbow.  Get out on the Walker while it last Bridgeport Res is quite full in a matter of time they will be releasing water out of the reservoir to Nevada and that will bring the flows unsafe to fish.
